Dangerous driving investigation, Hervey Bay
Police are investigating an alleged dangerous driving incident after a 22-year-old Hervey Bay man was injured in a single vehicle crash at Beelbi Creek this afternoon.
Preliminary information indicates that the crash occurred on Pialba – Burrum Heads Road some time after midday.
The driver and sole occupant sustained facial injuries after his car slid into a table drain located off the side of the road, with the vehicle rolling several times before stopping.
A police officer who had been sitting in a stationary marked police vehicle issuing a traffic infringement notice to another motorist, at the intersection of Pialba – Burrum Heads Road and Toogoom Road around 11.55am allegedly observed a vehicle drive past him and ‘fishtale’ in a dangerous manner.
The officer attempted to intercept the car but lost sight of it soon after, with the officer abandoning his attempt to intercept the vehicle.
A short time later the driver appears to have lost control and crashed the vehicle, with the police officer locating the overturned car whilst conducting patrols in the area.
The man is currently in the Hervey Bay Hospital with non life threatening injuries and police investigations are continuing.
