Christmas at the Academy brings fun for third year
The Queensland Police Service’s annual event – Christmas at the Academy, is set to make its third year better than ever.
The free event, which is open to the public, will be on tomorrow from 4pm to 7pm at the Queensland Police Service Academy on Rudd Street, Oxley.
The afternoon will be action packed with free rides for the kids, police stalls including a vehicle display from our Fleet Management branch, equipment on view from the Public Safety Response Team and Explosives Ordnance Response Team as well as appearances from the Dog Squad and the Mounted Unit.
Other stalls include Community Safety and Crime Prevention Branch, Policelink, the Oxley District Crime Prevention Unit and the Oxley District Crime Stoppers.
Education and Training Command Acting Assistant Commissioner Allan McCarthy said this year the event had expanded to include additional rides for the kids as well as new participants.
“This year I would like to welcome the Oxley District Country Women’s Association, Queensland Fire and Rescue officers from Durack and the South Western SES Group who will be running stalls this year,” Acting Assistant Commissioner McCarthy said.
“These groups played an important role in assisting people in our community who were affected by the floods last year and it will be a pleasure to have them here to show our gratitude.”
The Inala PCYC will again be running the barbeque and Santa and his sleigh will be available for photos with donations from the shoot going to Community Supporting Police.
“To close the event there will be a cracking Christmas concert with guest performances from the Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra, our own police choir Melody in Blue, the Queensland Pipes and Drums and guest soloists,” Acting Assistant Commissioner McCarthy said.
“If you are looking for a great afternoon of free entertainment and fun then Christmas at the Academy ticks all of the boxes.”
