Serious assault police, Mackay

A 22-year-old Andergrove man has been charged following an incident at Mackay Harbour last night in which a police officer was allegedly punched in the face multiple times.

Around 11.20pm, police were called to a disturbance between two people on Mulherin Drive when they allegedly attempted to arrest a man.

It is alleged the man then struck a 25-year-old male Constable in the face multiple times before being arrested.

The Constable subsequently attended the Mackay Base Hospital for treatment to facial injuries including swelling, bruising and abrasions. He was subsequently released from hospital.

The 22-year-old man has been charged with one count each of serious assault police and obstructing police. He is due to appear before the Mackay Magistrates Court on December 22.
