Prof Ann Roche

Director, The National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction

Professor Ann Roche is Director of the National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA), at Flinders University, South Australia.  Previously she was the Director of the Queensland Alcohol and Drug Research and Education Centre at the University of Queensland for five years.  She has thirty years experience in the field of public health and has worked as a researcher, educator, and policy analyst in various public health areas and has held academic posts at the University of Sydney, the University of Newcastle and the University of Queensland. 

For the past 20 years her professional interests have focussed largely on alcohol and drug issues, particularly in relation to professional education, workforce development and professional practice change. She holds graduate level qualifications in education and public health and has published extensively in alcohol and drug and related public health areas, including over 100 papers and reports, several books and book chapters.  She has worked as a consultant to the World Health Organization, in addition to numerous consultancies for government and non-government bodies in Australia and overseas and has acted as an adviser on a wide range of committees in the alcohol and drug field.  She has lead numerous multi-disciplinary research projects and has developed a wide range of educational resource materials and programs.  Her key interest is in strategies to bring about professional practice and systems change through research translation and dissemination initiatives in areas related to public health.
