Outrigger Canoe
The outrigger event at this years games was contested by two teams from the Gold Coast, while the numbers were down, enthusiasm, pride and courage were qualities displayed by the competitors. The 300 metre sprint was decided by a distance of less than a metre with the Gold Coast Water Police holding off a determined crew from Gold Coast Police Citizens Youth Club.
The marathon race over 3 kilometres was a muscle burner with the Water Police unable to shake the dogged efforts PCYC team until the last couple of hundred metres. Both crews made the most of the start by using the strong northerly winds to their advantage. The crews came together during a couple of tight turns however eyes were fixed on the timing in the boat to keep momentum going. After the last turn the GCWP found their second wind and cruised to the finish line.
Great effort by all competitors.

- Silver to the PCYC in both races
