Shooting (Rifle)

On Sunday 9th September 2007 the Rifle Shooting events of the Games were held at the Belmont Shooting Complex, Brisbane.

The competition was held over 500,600 and 700 yards with competitors shooting 2 sighters and 10 counting shots per range in the categories of Fullbore and Scope Class. Scores in Fullbore were out of a possible 50 points while scores in Scope class were out of a possible 60 points. Both categories returned particularly high scores and the competition was hotly contested throughout the day.

Eight competitors entered with two of these competing in both categories. Three highlghts of the day were Roger Dahl’s perfect score of 60/60 at 600yards, his 59/60 at 700 yards (both in scoped rifle) and Andrew Burns’ possible score of 150/150 in the fullbore event. An encouragement award was presented to Bruce Mathiou who came 3rd in the scoped rifle event. Congratulations to you all.

The weather was fine with light cloud and a slight breeze that made the competition a little challenging.
