Soccer (Indoor)
The match to decide third and forth place was played between Westz and Beenleigh Bad Heads who finished in second place in pool A and B respectively. This match was pretty even until the second half when the gallant Westz team succumbed to injuries and a lack of substitutes to eventually go down by a couple of goals to the Beenleigh boys who had about 20 subs (at least that’s what it felt like when you played against them). Beenleigh were deserving of their bronze medal and were the most professional looking team on the day with their matching black strip and more support staff than some teams had players.
The final was an absolute cracker with both teams trading goals until the final whistle blew and the score was 2 -2. Five minutes golden goal extra time was then played with neither team being able to breach the tough defence. The result was finally decided on a penalty shoot out with the Old Boys narrowly shading their younger rivals. It was a good result for the Old Boys who have now taken out the Gold Medal at the last 3 Games but with most of the squad hitting their 40’s it’s getting more difficult to defend the title.
Special mention must be made to the Pumas who fought hard all day without coming up with a win, part of this can probably be contributed to the fact that half the team had run in the 10km road race earlier in the day.
Thanks to the manager and staff of Redlands PCYC for providing an excellent venue for the competition.
Final results for the indoor soccer as follows:
- Gold – Academy old boys
- Silver – Bayside
- Bronze – Beenleigh Badheads
