The QPS begins its rollout of tasers to operational police across the State from early January 2009. As a part of this rollout, we have developed a stakeholder engagement strategy in an attempt to ensure that all groups in the community, especially those who for a range of reasons are more likely to come into contact with Police, are informed. There are some groups within the community who are less likely to access mainstream media in Queensland. There will also be posters and brochures in police stations to inform the public of the fact that tasers will be in use from early in the New Year. Particular attention has been paid to getting the message into remote Indigenous communities, with radio advertising through the National Indigenous Radio Service starting from December 19. Officers in Charge (OIC) of these stations have also been given communication material to facilitate face-to-face meetings with the communities. These will be reinforced early in the New Year, with a taser specialist and a Cultural Liaison officer travelling to communities to assist the OICs with community meetings. On these pages you will find more information on the introduction of tasers and answers to frequently asked questions. |
