$50,000 REWARD

REWARD:
The Minister for Police and Corrective Services has approved a reward of $50,000 be offered for information which leads to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a series of arson attacks at the Helensvale State High School, Discovery Drive, Helensvale since 11 February 2002.

INDEMNITY FROM PROSECUTION:
In addition, an appropriate indemnity from prosecution will be recommended for any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the crime, who first gives such information.

The allocation of the $50,000 reward will be at the sole discretion of the Commissioner of the Police Service.

CIRCUMSTANCES:
During the past 12 months there have been ten fires at the Helensvale State High School. Two of these fires are considered as non-suspicious in nature. Since 11 February 2002 there have been eight fires caused by the deliberate actions of person/s unknown. These incidents occurred on 11 February 2002, 17 February 2002, 31 March 2002, 4 April 2002, 21 June 2002, 3 July 2002, 15 July 2002 and 11 August 2002 and have resulted in damage to the school in excess of $2 million.
