ROBERT JAMES GIRVAN
$250,000 REWARD

Checker Heading

REWARD:
The Minister for Police and Corrective Services has approved a reward of $250,000 be offered for information which leads to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Robert James GIRVAN at Main Beach, Gold Coast on 31 July 1993.

INDEMNITY FROM PROSECUTION:
In addition, an appropriate indemnity from prosecution will be recommended for any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the crime, who first gives such information.

The allocation of the $250,000 reward will be at the sole discretion of the Commissioner of the Police Service.

CIRCUMSTANCES:
At about 6.15am on Saturday 31 July 1993 the body of Robert James GIRVAN was located on the beach approximately one kilometre north of the Mirage Resort east of Seaworld Drive, Main Beach. A Post Mortem revealed that the victim had suffered recent minor bruising and abrasions. Although some of these injuries were consistent with the abrasive effect of wave action on the sand, some may have been the result of a physical assault just prior to his death. The cause of death was given as drowning while suffering the toxic effects of the drug 'ecstasy'. The victim's vehicle, a yellow Holden Gemini sedan, Reg. No. 520-AOF, missing at the time of the location of his body, was found abandoned outside of the Mt Warren Park State School, Beenleigh on Sunday 1 August 1993. Mr GIRVAN was actively involved in the Gold Coast drug scene and was himself an active user of 'ecstasy' and other dangerous drugs. He also frequented the Coast's Night Club scene.
