REWARD:
The Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Emergnecy Services has approved a reward of $50,000 be offered for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a fatal 'hit and run' road crash at Townsville on 15 January 2009.

INDEMNITY FROM PROSECUTION:
In addition, an appropriate indemnity from prosecution will be recommended for any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the crime, who first gives such information.

The allocation of the $50,000 reward will be at the sole discretion of the Commissioner of the Police Service.

CIRCUMSTANCES:

On 15 January 2009, at about 11:40pm, Ms Jacobs was located fatally injured lying on the roadway at Abbott St, Oonoonba, Townsville. Investigations at the scene and since have concluded that Ms Jacobs was struck, whilst standing or walking, by ‘some part of a vehicle or its payload.’ This impact appears to have occurred on the left side of her body, ‘about level with her sternum.’ This caused the deceased to fall backwards, resulting in her striking the rear of her head on the bitumen road surface. Despite a significant and protracted investigation and a media campaign, no person or vehicle has been identified as responsible for this ‘hit and run’ road fatality.

Any member of the public with information which could assist Police is asked to contact:

  • Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch, Phone (07) 4759 9777;
  • Any Police Station; or
  • Crime Stoppers, Phone 1800 333 000.
