REWARD
The Minister for Police and Corrective Services has approved a reward of $250 000 be offered for information which leads to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Joan Kathleen PITT at St Lucia on or about 1 January 2004.
INDEMNITY FROM PROSECUTION
In addition, an appropriate indemnity from prosecution will be recommended for any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the crime, who first gives such information.
The allocation of the $250 000 reward will be at the sole discretion of the Commissioner.
CIRCUMSTANCES
At about 1:30pm on Thursday 1 January 2004 the body of Joan Kathleen Pitt, 83 years of age, was located in her dwelling located at Unit 11, 36 Sandford Street, St Lucia. Investigations have identified the time of Ms Pitt’s death to be between 8:30pm Wednesday 31 December 2003 and 1:30pm Thursday 1 January 2004. Entry by the offender(s) was gained by forcing the handle of the unit door. Ms Pitt died as a result of injuries sustained during the incident. The bedroom of Ms Pitt had been ransacked and a quantity of jewellery valued at approximately $500 000 was stolen.
