DESTRUCTION BY FIRE OF
The Minister of Police and Corrective Services has approved a reward of $250 000 be offered for information leading to either the identification of the cause of the fire, or to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the commencement of the fire, at the Seabreeze Lodge Boarding House, Second Avenue, Sandgate on 18 August 2002, which led to the deaths of three occupants.
INDEMNITY FROM PROSECUTION:
In the case of an offence being identified, an appropriate indemnity from prosecution will be recommended for any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the crime, who first gives such information.
The allocation of the $250 000 reward will be at the sole discretion of the Commissioner of the Police Service.
At about 11:30pm on the 18 August 2002, the Seabreeze Lodge Boarding House, 30 Second Avenue, Sandgate was destroyed by fire. Three of the boarding house occupants perished as a result of the fire. The fire commenced in a front insecure area of the boarding house, beneath the main floor where the occupants resided in individual rooms. The fire also spread to and destroyed the adjoining premises, another boarding house.
