Armed Robbery Awareness

Foreword by Assistant Commissioner Allan Honor

This programme is a problem oriented, police community partnership initiative of the Metropolitan North Police Region. The programme aims to establish interactive links between businesses and police in implementing strategies to reduce the incidence of armed robbery offences.

Our armed robbery programme includes enforcement and proactive strategies. Some of the proactive components are designed to reduce the risk of victimisation by making it more difficult to commit the offence, increasing the likelihood an offender will be apprehended and reducing reward available to an offender from the proceeds of crime.

The Armed Robbery Awareness Programme cannot guarantee risks associated with armed robbery will be eliminated however the strategies suggested have general deterrence and crime prevention value and are designed to minimise the incidence of this serious offence.

I commend the programme to all small business operators and encourage employers and/or representative to attend the seminars which will be held throughout the region during the next twelve months. Should you have any questions regarding the programme, or would like further information please contact your local District Community Liaison Officer. For your convenience the relevant contact numbers have been listed on page 17 of the booklet.

By working together we can make a difference.

Allan Honor
Assistant Commissioner
Metropolitan North Police Region
