Are you a soft target?
Research by the National Police Research Unit clearly shows that whilst the number of armed robbery offences committed against financial institutions in Australia has steadily decreased in the past decade, the number robberies at what can be described as soft targets is on the increase. Clearly, targeting hardening strategies implemented by banks and like institutions have been successful in deterring offenders.
An analysis of crime trends in the Metropolitan North Region revealed that Convenience Stores, Service Stations, Bottle Shops and Food Outlets were victimised at a greater rate than any other venue.
