The soul-stirring sound of Queensland Police Pipes & Drums . . . If you've ever seen a great pipe band perform, you know just how soul stirring the event can be. The powerful presence of a pipe band creates a magical and emotive experience. The Queensland Police Pipes & Drums has been long celebrated as one of Australia's finest pipe bands. The band has previously won numerous state, national and international championships and has performed at thousands of functions, ranging from the world famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo to rock concerts to community group receptions. The band embraces the talents of police officers and other police service staff - players whose abilities combine to create a band of the highest calibre. The Queensland Police Pipes & Drums assists community groups and officers of the Queensland Police Service at a variety of official engagements and community events. |

Supporting the community through music . . . The Queensland Police Pipes & Drums serves the Queensland community by regularly performing at charity events, community fetes, festivals and shows around the State. Performances are at no cost to the community. Working with other police districts and various community groups, the band also visits hospitals, nursing homes, schools and youth clubs. Recently the band introduced a ‘Kops in Kilts’ program for schools where they perform traditional, modern and popular children’s music. This community support not only provides many people with world-class entertainment, but creates opportunities for the Queensland Police Service to interact closely with people from all walks of life. |

Performing at official engagements . . . The band plays an integral role at a number of official ceremonies throughout the year. These include Government House open days, the ANZAC Day parade, police inductions and Police Remembrance Day. The sight and sound of the Pipes & Drums brings an air of tradition and distinction to these special occasions. Its’ creative marching displays and colourful musical performances provide a spectacular addition to the formal procedures. | |

On stage and in concert . . . The Queensland Police Pipes & Drums presents numerous concert performances throughout the year. The band has a wide and versatile repertoire encompassing contemporary and traditional music. The addition of modern rock instruments adds an exciting dimension to the band's performances. | |
| A brief history . . . | |

The Queensland Police Pipes & Drums was formed in 1958 by a small group of police officers led by former Senior Constable Neville Montgomery. In 2008 the Pipes & Drums celebrated their 50th Anniversary. Internationally, the band has performed at the 'Royal Tournament', the 'Colchester Searchlight Tattoo' and the world famous 'Edinburgh Military Tattoo' in 1975. In recent times the Band has performed in the inaugural Brisbane International Festival in 1996, Brisbane International Tattoo in 1996, 1998 and 2000 and the Adelaide International Police Tattoo in 2001, 2003 and 2008. |

In 2005 the Band performed in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo ‘ A Salute To Australia’ in Sydney and, as a crowning achievement, performed in the 57th Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2006. Whilst in Edinburgh for the Tattoo, the Band was also invited by and performed with the newly formed Royal Regiment of Scotland in a Beating of Retreat before Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Phillip and members of the Royal Family in the grounds of Balmoral Castle at Braemar, Scotland. In 2008 the Queensland Police Pipes & Drums traveled to Oasaka, Japan as part of their 50th Anniversary celebrations. | |
