2003 - Professionalism
  In February 2003, the QPS establishes a Counter Terrorism Coordination Unit, to give expert advice to government and assist the coordination of the State's counter-terrorism strategies.
 
  13 Disaster Victim Identification Squad officers are deployed to Bali, as part of an Australian contingent, to assist Indonesian Government following the terrorist attack in Bali.
 
  The QPS establishes a Tourist Oriented Policing Unit to enhance the safety and security of tourists.
 
  The introduction of 2 additional dog/handler teams to assist in drug detection, and the restructuring of specialist dog teams, brings the number of drug dog teams to 6.
 
2004 - Community Engagement
  The QPS develops strategies in relation to recommendations of the CMC report: Protecting Children and the Government's Child Protection Blueprint. A Coordination Support Unit is established under authority of a Child Safety Director, to implement and monitor the role of the QPS.
 
  Secure digital radio networks to support police operations are established in the Brisbane metropolitan area, Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Bundaberg, Maryborough and Toowoomba.
 
  Tactical Crime Squads commence operations at Oxley, North Brisbane and Mt Isa.
 
  Further forensic facilities are upgraded to allow the Service to apply for accreditation by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA). This accreditation provides formal recognition that the QPS meets international standards in the performing forensic examinations..
 
  The QPS introduces a new training program, the Justice Entry Traineeship (Certificate IV in Justice - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples). The program provides greater opportunities for ATSI peoples to gain employment as Queensland police officers.
 
  There are 9003 sworn staff (21.8% females) and 2994 staff members (as of June 30 2004).
