Human Resources Division
Human Resources Division is responsible for the attraction, selection, training, deployment, management and retention of the Service’s human resources. It also provides employee assistance services to QPS staff, such as career planning and equity management.
Human Resource Development Branch is responsible for the strategic integration and delivery of education, training and development programs to police officers and staff members throughout the Service. The Branch manages the Queensland Police Academy in Oxley and the Townsville Campus, which provide training and education to police recruits. The Academy is also the central point through which progressive professional development and education programs for both police officers and staff members is offered.
Human Resource Management Branch exists to provide direct support services to the organisation in relation to the attraction, selection, deployment, management and retention of its human resources. Its major functions are:
- Human Resource Management (HRM) policy and systems research, development and implementation;
- Recruitment and selection for employment;
- Work force planning and allocation;
- Organisational design, job design, analysis and evaluation;
- Recruitment and selection for internal deployment;
- Employee assistance services;
- Career planning and management services;
- Payroll and administration of conditions of employment;
- Appeals administration;
- Equity management (including anti-discrimination);
- Consultancy and advisory services to line management on HRM issues; and
- Occupation psychology.
The Health, Safety and Industrial Relations Branch (HSIRB) is responsible for overseeing the Service’s health and safety management system, which includes coordination of the consultative process, management of rehabilitation and inoculation programs, and the provision of initiatives for health management. It also develops health and safety policy, provides injury/illness data analysis and health and safety advice to all levels of management within the Service. HSIRB provides advice, representation, dispute resolution and other industrial relations services to all levels of management across the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and other agencies, when required. It researches, develops and delivers submissions, and represents the QPS at tribunals in cases and disputes.
