State Crime Operations Command

The State Crime Operations Command (SCOC) responds to organised and major crime, and serial or notable crimes on a statewide basis. The Command supports the Regions in providing high-quality, professional and investigative services, specialist staff and access to sophisticated technology. Investigators conducting major operations on behalf of the Command receive expert assistance from qualified criminal intelligence, forensic computer, legal and financial professionals. SCOC also works in partnership with other law enforcement agencies such as the Crime and Misconduct Commission (an amalgamation of the Queensland Crime Commission and the Criminal Justice Commission from 1 January 2002), the National Crime Authority, the Australian Bureau of Criminal Intelligence and the Australian Federal Police.

SCOC recognises the importance of specialist training and continuous improvement in order to enhance knowledge, attitudes and skill base. As such, SCOC facilitates numerous specialist courses, including: Advanced Surveillance Course, Auto Theft Investigation Course, Homicide Investigators Course, Dignitary Protection Course (VIP), Major and Organised Crime Management Course, Interviewing Children And Recording Evidence Course (ICARE), Sexual Offences Investigation Course, Juvenile Aid Bureau Course, Economic Crime Course, Management of Electronic Surveillance Course, Covert Operatives and Controllers Course, Clandestine Laboratory Investigation/Awareness Course-Workshop, Plantation Aware Workshop, Protective Behaviours, Senior Drug Investigation Course, Stock Investigations Course, Stolen Motor Vehicle Identification Course, Workplace Health and Safety Workshop and the Computer Crime Course.

State Crime Operations Command comprises of Crime Operations Branch and the Bureau of Criminal Intelligence Queensland (BCIQ). The Command has an Education and Research Unit which undertakes a variety of projects to develop best management and investigative practices in the Service.

The Crime Operations Branch provides the investigative arm of the Command, focusing on major and organised crime which crosses regional, State and international boundaries, and major or organised crime which is not within the capacity of Regional resources.

The Bureau of Criminal Intelligence Queensland provides the Service and other law enforcement agencies with intelligence to assist law enforcement in the investigation of crime. It is also responsible for dignitary protection in accordance with legislation and international convention, and for the prevention of politically-motivated violence.
