Opportunity to become a Queensland Police OfficerThe Queensland Police Service offers Traineeships in the Justice Entry Program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. These Traineeships are part of the Queensland Police Service’s Diversity Management Plan. The Traineeship provides the education qualifications for entry into the Queensland Police Service as a police recruit, including a First Aid Certificate. Trainees who successfully undertake this program will also be eligible to receive an Australian National Training Authority endorsed qualification. Entry Requirements
Applicants must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people and ideally have completed year 12 school education with at least one or two years employment experience. Alternatively, applicants who have year 10 education with extensive employment and life related skills which demonstrate potential to succeed as a police officer, may also apply. Applicants must also meet police recruit entry requirements including integrity, health and fitness. Driver LicenceYou must hold a current Australian Open driver licence to operate a motor vehicle (manual or automatic); or a current Australian Provisional driver licence, with one years driving experience and successful completion of a defensive driving course recognised by the Queensland Police Service (QPS). The QPS recognises the following defensive driving course:
Defensive driving courses must be delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). The following RTO's have agreed to list their names as providers of this course.
To drive police patrol vehicles, police officers must meet particular medical and health standards as outlined by the National Road Transport Commission's guidelines. These medical standards have been incorporated into the medical and fitness testing associated with Stage 2 of the selection process. DurationThe traineeship is a six month full time course, held at the Queensland Police Service Academies in Brisbane and Townsville. SalaryDuring the traineeship, trainees will receive a salary equal to that of a police recruit. This equates to a fortnightly salary of $1243.55* gross.
