Interactive Checklist

This checklist should be completed after you have read the Selection Process. It is designed to establish your eligibility to apply to join the Queensland Police Service as a recruit. The checklist is merely a tool to measure how many of the minimum requirements you may or may not meet.

Question One: Essential Recruiting Requirements
  • Are you a permanent Australian Resident or Australian Citizen or New Zealand Citizen?

  • Do you hold a current Open driver licence to drive a motor car in Australia?
  • OR an Australian Provisional driver licence with one year driving experience and successful completion of defensive driving course TLIC107C.  This course must be delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) which is recognised by the Queensland Police Service.

Unable to meet Essential Recruiting Requirements

You do not meet our essential requirements in relation to:

    • Residency and/or; 
    • Driver Licence; and/or 
    • Education.

As a result you may not be eligible to apply at this stage. You must obtain the minimum entrance requirements before applying.  If you have any concerns or questions, please contact POLICE RECRUITING.

It is also highly recommended that before taking steps to obtain;

    • the specified driver licence requirements, and/or 
    • Australian residency or citizenship, and/or 
    • relevant educational qualifications,

to discuss your situation if you have any of the following:

1) Criminal record (including juvenile cautions/warnings); 
2) Extensive adverse traffic history (speeding tickets/traffic offence notices); 
3) Currently on medication or affected by a medical condition such as asthma, deafness, diabetes, epilepsy, mental instability or impaired vision;

as this may exclude you from the selection process.

Able to Meet Essential Recruiting Requirements

If you meet all of the previously mentioned checklist requirements but you have any of the following:

1) Criminal record (including juvenile cautions/warnings);
2) Traffic history (that includes drink driving or loss of licence);
3) Currently on medication or affected by a medical condition such as asthma, deafness, diabetes, epilepsy, mental instability or impaired vision;

you may be excluded from becoming a police officer. It is highly recommended that you read the minimum application requirements associated with the selection process for advice in relation to any of the above matters.

Question 3: Application Requirements
  • Have you ever received a Traffic Infringement Notice or Traffic Summons (excluding parking)?
  • or

  • Have you ever taken or used any illicit drugs or substance?
  • or

  • Have you ever been cautioned/warned/questioned or charged with any criminal, civil, military or other offence including offences for which no conviction was recorded by a court? This includes offences committed as a juvenile.
  • or

  • Have you been the subject of a Domestic Violence Order?

Question 3: Notice

You need to provide full details in Section 10 on the application form outlining when and where this occurred and the outcome. (You only need to tick YES if you have received any traffic infringement notices.  You do not need to provide the full details of each infringement).

Question 4: Application Requirements

Have you got any physical condition, injury or disability that might affect your capacity to perform operational policing duties (including asthma, deafness, diabetes, epilepsy, mental instability or impaired vision)?

or

Are you currently, or have you previously taken any medication that may affect your ability to perform the operational duties of a police officer?

Question 4: Notice
Health/Medical requirements are detailed at Stage 1 of the Selection Process. You need to provide a medical report from a Pre Employment Medical Service PEMS Directory (PEMS Directory|306691|application/pdf 299 KB) provider. Any expenses incurred by you in obtaining medical reports to assess your fitness for entry will not be met by the Queensland Police Service.

Question 5: Application Requirements
Do you wear visual aids (glasses/contact lenses etc)?

Question 5: Notice

You will need to provide an optometrist report showing corrected and uncorrected visual acuity in each eye, as well as an opinion as to the health of your eyes.

Question 6: Application Requirements
Do you have a colour vision defect?

Question 6: Notice
You need to have your colour vision assessed by an optometrist at your own expense.
Applicants are therefore required to undertake the normal colour vision assessment by the Ishihara Plate Test.
