Working In Partnership

FROM THE POLICE COMMISSIONER

The Queensland Police liaison to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) Communities is a strategy designed to ensure that policing services are accessible to all members of the community.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) initiated the project in 1997 at a metropolitan level. We must build on the good work that has been done in the past by being committed to continuous improvement and ensuring that a consistent approach was undertaken statewide.

I believe the main priority for the QPS is public safety. This priority extends to the safety and security of everyone in the community. Initiatives such as this are a considerable step towards achieving this priority.

I have no doubt challenges will accompany this strategy. However, I believe that whatever they may be, we have the organisational capacity to successfully deal with them all. I hold this view because of the faith and confidence I have in the quality of the people who make up the Service. The QPS now has a network of LGBTI Liaison Officers.

I encourage all communities to utilise this resource if assistance is required.

R ATKINSON APM
COMMISSIONER

The purpose of this program is to provide a professional, non-discriminatory, accessible policing service to members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) Communities.

Our goal is to achieve this by:

  • Developing an awareness and understanding of LGBTI communities.
  • Developing partnerships with LGBTI communities.
  • Ensuring equality, accountability and professionalism in our contact with LGBTI communities.
  • Improving service delivery to LGBTI communities.

Queensland Police Service Vision Statement

We are determined to be a professional police service, dedicated to excellence and committed to working in partnership with the people of Queensland to enhance the safety and security of our community.
