Non-English speaking background

People who are new to Australia or Queensland, who may have some difficulty understanding, speaking or reading English, should not be discouraged from contacting police and taking action when they are experiencing domestic violence.

The following links provide detailed information in a number of languages on ways to take appropriate action when domestic and family violence is occurring.

Police officers are trained to deal with people from non-English speaking backgrounds, and have access to 24 hour interpreting services.
