History of False Alarms

An area of concern to the Queensland Police Service is the increasing number of call-outs to false alarms.  These calls absorb a significant amount of police resources that detract from the detection and prevention of criminal activities.

Calls for service relating to alarms generally rank in the “top four” of complaints received by police.  Unfortunately, on average, over 90% of calls received are false alarms and when you consider that up to 37,000 alarm calls were received in the metropolitan area (2003 calendar year), the magnitude of this unnecessary demand on limited police resources becomes apparent.

The 'False Alarms Procedures Pilot' was established in December 2004 with a view to addressing the number of calls for service relating to alarms.
