Inquirers' Guide - Step 1

Contact your local District Crime Prevention Coordinator (DCPC), who will assist you in getting a Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) programme started in your area.

Working out a NHW Boundary

Your DCPC will provide you with a map with suggested boundaries for your new NHW area.

A NHW area ideally is made up of about 500 homes which can be defined by natural boundaries, eg creek, hill, or major road. This area is then broken down into: four zones of about 125 homes, and each is further broken down into: blocks containing about 8-12 homes.

You may be required to conduct an accurate house count which will bring all relevant information on the area up to date.

If there has been a previous inquiry for a map covering the same area, you will be informed of all details of the previous inquirer. We suggest that you contact them and join forces in establishing your NHW area.
