Business Guidelines
CBD Emergency Plan Business Guidelines (currently being developed)

The objectives of this guide are to:

  • increase government and community preparedness for any emergency incident;
  • encourage discussion and thinking about emergency preparedness;
  • provide building owners, managers and tenants with information via a community education strategy regarding their responsibilities during a significant emergency incident, including an evacuation;
  • reduce the adverse impacts of an emergency incident on the personal, business and general community;
  • provide the critical components of a good emergency management framework for businesses; and
  • provide continued public education, review and testing.
Note: The concepts in this document are not intended to conflict with established emergency response plans that are the responsibility of the relevant building to develop and practice (e.g. if a building’s fire alarm is activated or other trigger occurs that would typically activate the building’s emergency response plan, that response should be followed and occupants should not wait for advice from emergency services). In an emergency, emergency services will attend and attempt to contain and combat the cause and provide assistance to affected persons.

Emergency Planning & Individuals
Emergency planning & individuals

It is important that we develop an individual emergency plan that will work in with any business emergency plan and the Brisbane CBD Emergency Plan.  Individuals are encouraged to plan for an emergency and consider:

  • ensuring your place of work has accurate contact details including next of kin;
  • discussing alternative actions in case of emergencies with family, friends and/or next of kin.  This may include possible meeting places in an emergency or other times when uncontactable (phone system may be out of service) or alternate pick-up arrangements for children from child care or school;
  • familiarising themselves with any building emergency response plans including knowledge of any fire wardens or other persons with key responsibilities; and
  • familiarising themselves with the Brisbane CBD Emergency Plan in particular the key concepts and the Emergency Support Sites that may be activated.
