Office for Seniors Department of Communities
The Office for Seniors funds initiatives for older people in Queensland. Their website provides information on funded programs and useful statistics.
Seniors Enquiry Line
Seniors Enquiry Line is a state-wide information and referral service. For the cost of a local call, Seniors Enquiry Line gives Queensland seniors, their family, friends, grandparents and carers access to information on topics of interest to seniors.
One call will put you in touch with information on: concessions, social activities, household assistance, retirement accommodation, financial and legal matters, health, education, transport and many other issues.
Elder Abuse Prevention Unit
The Elder Abuse Prevention Unit (EAPU) promotes the right of older people to live free from abuse. The unit is funded by the Department of Communities to provide a state-wide service to respond to the abuse of older people in Queensland and operates under the auspice of Lifeline Brisbane.
Seniors Legal and Support Service
The Seniors Legal and Support Services provide free legal and support services for seniors concerned about elder abuse, mistreatment or financial exploitation. The services are staffed by solicitors and social workers.
Community Legal Centres
Community Legal Centres (CLCs) are non-profit organisations that work in partnership with Legal Aid Queensland (LAQ) to provide a range of general and specialist legal services to the people of Queensland. They are a key component of Australia's legal aid system and provide a distinctive form of service which complements the services provided by LAQ and the private legal profession.
As a general rule assistance provided by CLCs is free, although donations are always welcome.

Office of the Adult Guardian
The role and functions of the Adult Guardian were established following the introduction of the Powers of Attorney Act 1998. Under the Act, the Adult Guardian's broad role is to protect the rights and interests of adults who have impaired capacity including protection from abuse, exploitation and neglect.
Guardianship and Administration Tribunal
The Guardianship and Administration Tribunal (GAAT) was established under the Guardianship and Administration Act 2000, and commenced operations in July 2000. The Tribunal is a simple and inexpensive way of appointing guardians and administrators to protect the rights of adults who are unable to make a decision and put it into effect themselves because of impaired decision-making capacity.
Office of Public Trustee
The Office of the Public Trustee was established initially to act in the capacity of administrator of deceased estates, providing financial management for people with a disability and giving aid in any legal proceedings by or against a disadvantaged person.
The Public Trust Office has continued in its role of assisting the community, and has responded to community demand by introducing many new services. Services have expanded to include obtaining probate for private executors, investments, the auctioning of motor vehicles, property and other assets.
Family Relationship Centres
Family Relationship Centre’s can assist if you are a grandparent or other extended family member affected by a family separation who needs information, advice, and referral or family dispute resolution services
Australian Pensioners and Superannuants League
The Australian Pensioners’ and Superannuants’ League, Qld Inc. (APSL) is a voluntary support, referral, information, advocacy and lobby group with members of varying ages but with one thing in common: we are people who are receiving various types of pensions with some living on superannuation funds or self-funded retirees.
APSL provides a voice at local, state and federal levels of government on all issues of importance to the well being, security and dignity of people who are receiving a pension or superannuation payments.The APSL State Office provides members and the community with advocacy, information and referral services. The League is predominantly run by volunteers.
Older People Speak Out
Older People Speak Out (OPSO) is an independent, free-spirited group with the experience, knowledge and qualifications to speak out on older people’s issues without fear or favour.
Our members include qualified people from various professions. OPSO share their professionalism with others to help them to acquire the skills which will empower them. In this way they promote healthy ageing.
Council on the Ageing
Council on the Ageing (COTA) is Australia's leading seniors' organisation, with individual members and seniors organisation members in all States and Territories.
COTA protects and promotes the well-being of all seniors. COTA is an independent consumer organisation run by and for senior Australians. COTA has been serving the interests of Australian seniors since 1951.
National Seniors Australia
National Seniors Australia is Australia’s largest independent organisation for people 50 and over. National Seniors Australia is a not-for-profit member based organisation.
Probus Association of Queensland Inc
Probus Association of Queensland Inc was formed to help, advise, assist and coordinate activities between Probians and Probus clubs, without, in any way, infringing on their autonomy.
Probus is community organisation for retired and semi retired people to sharing ideas and information, coordinating multi club opportunities for friendship, fellowship and social interaction, and assisting with the formation of new clubs.
Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland
The Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland (ECCQ) was established in 1976 to represent the interests of the many people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD) who are part of the broad social community of Queensland, and to promote multiculturalism.
It is a not-for-profit, community-based State peak organization. ECCQ contributes to national policy and debate on all matters concerning ethnic communities and multiculturalism through its affiliation with the Canberra-based Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia (FECCA).
KinKare is a not-for-profit community organisation that has been working since 2002 to assist relative carers, particularly grandparents, who find themselves with the responsibility of bringing up grandchildren.
Carers Queensland
Carers Queensland (also known as the Queensland Council of Carers) provides carers with information and services to support them in their caring role. Carers Queensland also work to increase awareness of carers and their issues.
Carers provide unpaid support and assistance to a family member or friend who has a disability, physical or mental illness, or is frail aged.
Queensland Aged & Disability Advocacy Inc
Queensland Aged & Disability Advocacy is a free, confidential and independent service that operates throughout Queensland, with offices located in Brisbane as well as North Queensland and Wide Bay.
The service provides advocacy, support and information for people in Residential Aged Care Facilities, and those receiving or eligible for Community Care Package services or Home and Community Care.
