Welcome

The Queensland Police Service recognises the valuable role that older Queenslanders play in our community and their right to safety and a lifestyle without fear.

There is a mistaken belief within the community that older people are vulnerable to crime and live in fear. The reality is quite different in Queensland, and in other jurisdictions in Australia and around the World.

Not only are seniors the least likely age group to become victims of crime statistically, they generally contribute to their own safety through their lifestyle. Seniors are more experienced and wiser, they tend to spend more time at home, are less likely to interact with offenders, and don’t place themselves in high risk situations like people in other age groups.

Whilst seniors have a right to feel safe all of the time, it is vital that they prepare themselves to recognise crime risk situations and take proactive steps to prevent them.

This web site has been designed to provide concise and user-friendly information on the many existing programs and services developed by the Queensland Police Service that may be of benefit to seniors. Please utilise the links to access the information you are seeking.
