Seniors Task Force
The Seniors Task Force was announced in February 2004 by the then Premier Peter Beattie. It reported to the Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Sport Judy Spence, and was chaired by Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson.
The Task Force met quarterly and formed three subcommittees to research and propose actions relating to the Investigation of Crime, the Fear of Crime and the Prevention of Crime.
Membership of the Task Force comprised government departments and community organisations:
- Australian Pensioners' and Superannuants' League
- Council on the Ageing Queensland (COTAQ)
- Crime and Misconduct Commission
- Department of Communities
- Department of Health
- Department of Housing
- Department of Justice and Attorney-General
- Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland
- Happy Seniors Club
- Keriba Mabaigal Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Culture and Heritage
- Local Government Association of Queensland
- Minister for Police and Corrective Services
- Ministerial Advisory Council for Older Persons
- National Seniors Australia
- Office of Fair Trading
- Queensland Police Service
- Queensland Retail Traders and Shopkeepers Association
- Reconciliation Queensland
In 2006 the Task Force produced the Seniors Task Force report with all 17 recommendations endorsed by the Queensland government.
These recommendations are currently being progressed by the Queensland Police Service and Department of Communities. The Task Force continues to meet on a six monthly basis.
