I am a licensed dealer. Am I able to deal in category M (g) crossbows?
Yes. A licensed dealer must make application for category M to be endorsed on their dealers licence in order to deal in category M (g) crossbows.
An application must be in the approved form and accompanied by the scheduled fee of $8.00. The approved form in this instance is Form 4B (

Applications must be lodged in person at a Queensland Police Station.
I am not a licensed dealer. From where can I obtain an application form?
Your local Police Station can supply the necessary application forms. These forms consist of the following:
- Form 1 (Application For A Licence) (
103 KB) - Form 30 (Proof of Identification Declaration) (
41 KB) - Crossbow Weapons List with serial numbers that have been engraved or stamped onto each crossbow
- Genuine reason (crossbow wholesaler/retailer)
- Include details of your security for the premises (click here for requirements under the Weapons Regulation 1996)
- Appropriate fee. (click for Schedule of Fees, Weapons Regulation 1996)
- Lodge entire application at your local Police Station. Do not send your application directly to Weapons Licensing Branch.
Do my employees have to be licensed?
Yes.Under section 70 of the Weapons Act 1990, any employee who handles weapons must hold a licence. These employees, under section 70, would be qualified weapons employees and they must be:
- at least 18 years; and
- hold a licence
In the course of employment as a qualified weapons employee, a person may possess any category of weapon his or her employer is authorised to possess.
As a dealer, do I have to maintain any registers?
Yes. A dealer will be required to maintain the following registers:-
- Register of Acquisitions and Disposals of Firearms
- Form 10 Register (Notice of Acquisition, Sale or Transfer of a Weapon Dealers Advice Book)
These Registers may be purchased from the Queensland Government Printer (Go-Print), South Brisbane.
- Should you wish to trade in crossbows only, your dealers licence will be endorsed solely for category M (g) crossbows.
- You will also be required to provide detailed information in relation to your previous experience in the use, sale and repair of Crossbows.
