Overseas, Customs, Import Permits and Visitors Licences
I am going overseas for a visit and wish to take my firearm?
You should contact the firearms authority in the country you are going to visit to ascertain if you are permitted to take firearms into that country and what requirements need to be met.
You need to contact Australian Customs to authorise an export permit and the airline to ensure air safety requirements are met prior to leaving Australia.
If you are an Australian resident (other than Queensland) who is passing through a Queensland airport, you will not need to apply for a importation of weapons police confirmation (B709A, B or D – Import Permit) in Queensland as the weapon is not registered to a licence holder in Queensland.
If returning to Australia with the firearms, an importation of weapons police confirmation (B709A, B or D – import permit) is required and obtainable from Weapons Licensing. An importation of weapons police confirmation (B709A, B or D – import permit) will only be issued to a resident of Queensland.
