Applying for a Group Licence

The following is further information about applying for this specific licence type in addition to what is provided in “Obtaining a new licence”.

It is important you refer to both the general steps in applying for a licence and the further information provided here.

This will ensure all necessary information is provided in your application.

Occupational (A,B,C,D,H and M)

To apply for this type of licence, you must complete Form 1 – Application for a Licence and lodge it at your local Queensland Police Station together with the prescribed fees.

You must also provide the following information;

  • A letter on company letterhead containing the following information:

(a)        The position held by the author of the letter in the company/business;

(b)        Authorisation for the applicant to be the representative for this application;

(c)         Details of activities which warrant the use of weapons.

  • A copy of the current registered business or company name providing details of the type of enterprise (e.g. sole proprietor, partnership etc), including the extract detailing the office holders of the company/business.  If the applicant is a shooting gallery operator, provide details of the shooting gallery approval number.
  • Details of the storage facility where weapons are to be stored and its compliance with legislation.

Shooting Club – Categories A, B, C, D & H –limited specific licence types

A group licence may be issued to an individual or a body and can include the same authority as a firearms licence, a firearms licence (instructor) or a concealable firearms licence, for genuine reasons such as sports or target shooting or firearms instruction.

To apply for this type of licence, you will need to complete Form 1 – Application for a Licence, the associated annexure and lodge them at your local police station accompanied by all required supporting documentation and prescribed fees.

You must also provide the following information:

  • A letter on letterhead club containing the following information:
    • The position in the club held by the author of the letter; and
    • Authorisation by another member of the club governing body for the applicant to be the representative for the application; and
    • Details of activities which warrant the use of weapons; and
    • Where and how weapons are to be stored
  • Details of the shooting club approval number
  • Details of the storage facility where weapons are to be stored and its compliance with legislation;
  • Details of any other club members, officers or employees who may provide additional storage, including storage address.
