History
The Queensland Police-Citizens Youth Welfare Association was registered as an incorporated company limited by guarantee on the 20 May 1948.
With assistance from the Government of the day and the Brisbane City Council, arrangements were made to lease a portion of land together with a building, formerly a Royal Australian Air Force maintenance and storage depot, at Lang Park. Following considerable alterations the first Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) was established on this site in 1949.
Such was the demand for the services of the PCYC that a further branch was constructed at Woolloongabba in 1956. This was then followed in 1962 by the Ipswich branch and then a fourth branch at Fortitude Valley in 1965.
From humble beginnings the PCYC has expanded to include 34 branches throughout Queensland. Branches are located in all corners of the state, from Cairns in the north, to the Gold Coast in the south, to Mt Isa in the west, and include a conference and camp centre in the beautiful Numinbah Valley in the Gold Coast hinterland.
