About the Safety House Association
The Safety House Association of Queensland Incorporated consists of:-
(a) State Council
(b) Regional Committees
(c) Local Committees
This programme has the full support of the Queensland Police Service, Education Department and Department of Family, Youth and Community Care.
The State Council consists of 15 volunteers, who are members of local committees, elected at an Annual General Meeting. A representative from the Police Service participates in an advisory capacity (State Police Liaison Officer).
Regional Committees are formed by members of Local Committees Each Local Committee is entitled to have two voting delegates on a Region, however there is no limit to how many members from each local committee can attend the Regional Committee.
Each Committee is self-funded. Payment of an Affiliation Fee, which includes public liability insurance, is payable to the Safety House Association of Queensland Incorporated.
The Safety House Association has a Public Liability Policy in the event of litigation arising from a child being injured whilst attending a Safety House under the prescribed circumstances.
Safety House applicants must meet certain criteria before they are accepted into the programme. The Queensland Police Service will conduct a criminal history and other checks for this purpose.
All committee members are screened by the Queensland Police Service whether they be Safety Householders or not.
All prospective applicants must complete a Personal Data Form and applicants over 18 years of age are required to complete an Authority to Conduct Enquiries Form.
It is important to ensure that any new resident of the approved Safety House or new employees who commence work at an approved Safety House business, also complete the prescribed forms.
