How to Establish a Safety House Committee / Programme

Prior to commencing a Safety House Programme it is a requirement that the inquirers must contact the Safety House Association of Queensland Incorporated:-

Please note that the office is closed every Monday, and the week prior to and during school holidays.

  • Read complete Safety House Manual
  • Contact the Regional Committee (The State Office will advise if a Regional Committee is operating within the area).
  • Conduct a survey through the School(s)
  • Obtain maps and check on neighbouring borders
  • Call a public meeting to form a Local Committee
  • Advise the Safety House Association of Queensland Inc. of the meeting date and arrange for a representative from the Regional Committee or the Association to attend
  • Give each member of the committee a copy of the complete Safety House manual to read
  • Arrange funding through the School P & C Association, any local Service Clubs, Community Groups etc
  • Affiliate with the Safety House Association of Queensland Inc. and supply all Local Committee details
  • Upon receipt of the Affiliation Kit, study the entire contents, including the Constitution
  • Issue ID Cards
  • Commence interviewing respondants
  • Committee screening of Safety House applicants and processing of application forms through the State Office and the Queensland Police Service
  • Order all resources from the Safety House Association of Queensland State Office
  • Arrange an Education Programme through the School, with the teachers, parents and local police
  • Arrange local media coverage
  • After receiving approval from the State Office, attach Safety House Plates, issue Procedure Cards to Safety Householders, erect School signs and map approved Safety Houses
  • Launch the Programme
  • Arrange monthly letterbox plate monitoring and three monthly personal "face to face" monitoring from within your Committee.
