What does a Safety Householder do?
- Immediately contact local Police.
- Give their exact address.
- Clearly state that it is a Safety House call and outline the problem.
- Follow Police instructions, note Officer's name and likely arrival time.
- Comfort the child and stay calm. When advised by police, contact the parent or guardian.
- Ring the local Safety House Committee as soon as possible to report the Incident.
- Ask the child to remember details about a person, vehicle and the incident generally. (Do not interrogate or ask leading questions - such as " did the person have a beard, did they have black hair." Allow the child to remember details of their own accord).
People, Cars, Buses and the like are never Safety Houses
To know how to approach and when to use a Safety House:
(a) by going to the front door of a Safety House, never to the back e.g. the child may get trapped, there may be a dog, etc.
(b) whenever a child feels in danger, i.e. being followed, bullied, harassed, injured or harmed in any way (or threat of any harm).
