Heroin
Heroin and other opiates such as opium, morphine, codeine, methadone and pethidine, are depressants, that is they slow down the messages going to and from the brain to the body. Common names for heroin include smack, horse, "H", big "H", junk, brown sugar, stuff. Heroin is a fine white powder that looks like talcum or baking powder. Heroin is most commonly injected but it can be inhaled or smoked.
Immediate Effects:
- feeling of well being (euphoria)
- nausea and vomiting
- shallow breathing
- constipation
- narrowing of the pupils of the eyes
- sleepiness.
