Steroids

Steroids are generally associated with enhancing sporting performance. However, anecdotal evidence shows anabolic steroids are being used by young males in the general community to increase muscle definition and body image. Steroids are usually sold in small vials and therefore are injected. In some cases, the steroids are packaged in tablet form.

There are no immediate effects of steroid use.

Long term effects that can develop include:

• muscle mass
• fluid retention and kidney pain
• high blood pressure
• depression
• heart disease
• testicle shrinkage.
