What a Tremendous Conference!
Bob Moncur (centre) receiving the NHW Person of the Year Award, presented by Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson APM, Mr Chris Lecky of CGU.
The 2002 State Conference has come and gone, and a lot of people are now having a well-earned rest. There is no rest for Rod or me, since the world of NHW ensures that we are both still gainfully employed with no free time to relax and enjoy the accolades that came with this year’s conference.
An event of this magnitude does not just happen. Whilst I was the one to receive all of the compliments, it would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the people who worked tirelessly to ensure that all went according to plan (or seemingly so).
First and foremost, I pay tribute to the steering committee, in particular Sen. Sgt. Bruce Tracey, along with the volunteers in policing, guest speakers, presenters, exhibitors, our sponsor CGU, and supporters of the event. To each and every one of you, I offer my heartfelt thanks.
Logan City hosted a terrific conference and the venue facilities were second to none.
The new format was well received and the award presentations were clearly the highlight of not only the evening, but also of the year.
To all of the award winners, congratulations and well done. You continue to be a shining example and inspiration for others within the NHW network.
A special mention must go to the ‘Neighbourhood Watch Member of the Year’, Robert Moncur from Redcliffe 5. There are not enough pages in this newsletter to describe all of the work that he does for NHW, but I will tell you that Bob was a founding member of Redcliffe 5 in 1989, has performed all NHW roles, is still an active participant, types and delivers the newsletter – and all of this at 81 years of age! What a fantastic way to conclude Crime Prevention Week 2002.
On behalf of the State Office NHW team, we wish all of our colleagues, and everyone within the NHW family, a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. See you in 2003!
Sergeant Wayne Rasmussen
