Metro South Region NHW Support Group

A NOVEL INITIATIVE being undertaken in the Metro South Police Region is the establishment of a new NHW Support Group, comprising of six Area Coordinators from three Districts and four Police, one from each district.

The group was established to help improve two-way communication, to assist in rectifying shortcomings, as well as to improve efficiency between NHW and the QPS.

At a special Area Coordinators’ meeting, a steering committee was chosen to establish ‘Terms of Reference’ and to define the role of the group.

In September 2000 the Support Group was launched, but took a while for focus to come together due to the numerous activities in 2001 involving group members (e.g, Goodwill Games, CHOGM, Police Games etc.)

In 2002, the Support Group has been active in promoting the role of the group and assisting other Watch Areas by having committee members attend NHW Annual General Meetings, launches of new areas, and meetings to rejuvenate ailing NHW areas.

The Support Group is not a governing body and does not pretend to have the solution to all problems. The members are keen to give support, assistance and encouragement to all Watch Areas, and to share information and ideas gathered through interaction.

If you are looking for new ways to enhance the effectiveness of your NHW group, then Area Coordinators are welcome to contact the Metro South Crime Prevention Coordinator, Senior Sergeant Gary Beattie on 3849 0333.
