Let's Get Involved in Preventing Crime

Crime Prevention Week 2003, from October 6–10, will see Queenslanders joining in partnership with the QPS to support, assist and discuss the best strategies for preventing crime in our local communities.

The Service’s Crime Prevention Week 2003 aims to raise community awareness of crime prevention strategies and partnerships designed to promote and protect our daily living environment, and to encourage further community participation in crime prevention.

Throughout the State during Crime Prevention Week, police and community groups will work together to promote different crime prevention initiatives designed to keep our communities safe.

The week highlights a variety of initiatives and projects designed to promote community engagement and partnership, particularly at a regional and district level. Following the regional success of the Crime Prevention Week 2002, this year's activities will further emphasise regional crime prevention initiatives.

This year’s theme is ‘Crime prevention through community engagement’ with the catch phrase of ‘Let’s get involved’. Each day will focus on specific strategies including community education and partnerships, property security, tourism, personal safety and youth.

All Queensland schools have been invited to get involved in Crime Prevention Week 2003 through a school poster competition, where students are asked to design posters focusing on either the overall theme of Crime Prevention week or one or more of the daily themes.

Local schools entering the poster competition have the opportunity to be a part of the official Crime Prevention Week promotion. State winners will be incorporated into the official Crime Prevention Week Poster which will be distributed across Queensland.

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie will officially launch Crime Prevention Week on October 6, 2003.
