Community Safety Project
Harris Fields NHW got into gear in October to put on a fantastic display day as a part of Crime Prevention Week and the Community Safety Project.
Over 200 local residents, police and DES personnel attended the event held at the Harris Fields State School, Logan. Displays were provided by various sections of the Police Service, Ambulance, Fire Service, Qld Health, Home Assist Secure, Department of Primary Industries and Care Link. The day also included the presentation of 57 NHW lapel badges and the induction of an Adopt-A-Cop. Whilst the day was a great success the highlight was the singing of the National Anthem and 'We are One' by the children of Harris Fields State School. The kids from many different cultural backgrounds sung as one showing by example that we can all live together even when we have differences. Well done to the Harris Fields State School and the community of Logan for embracing the Community Safety Project. Thanks also to the other trial areas who conducted various displays and activities during this week.
Stage Two of the Community Safety Project currently being trailed in six NHW areas continues in proving successful community safety initiatives. The project, a joint commitment between the NHW program and the Department of Emergency Services aims to enhance the prevention and preparedness capability of their community in relation to crime and general safety.
If your area would like to get involved in the Community Safety Project please consult the Community Safety Kit forwarded to all area coordinators or contact the NHW State Office.
