From State Office
The 2003 NHW State Rally held in Townsville was once again a huge success with over 150 NHW and police representatives attending. Strong support for the program was also highlighted by the attendance of the Minister for Police, Minister for Emergency Service’s, Mayor of Townsville and the Commissioner of Police.
The theme of this year’s Rally, “Just, Vibrant and Safe” was conveyed through a mixture of informative presentations and constructive workshops. These presentations covered a range of topics and feedback suggested they would be useful in the improvement of local NHW areas. Thank you to all the presenters for your efforts.
Another highlight of the Rally was the presentation of the 2003 NHW awards. Congratulations go to all the regional award winners with a special mention to Jean White of Mundingburra 3 who tool out the 2003 NHW Member of the Year award. Jean exemplifies the commitment and dedication that make our program such an important factor in keeping our communities safe. It would also be remiss of me to not to thank the organising committee and local NHW members for providing an interesting agenda and magnificent venue. The relaxed atmosphere provided a forum for kinship amongst Watchers and police alike.
I would also like to acknowledge Mr Chris Lecky of CGU who not only spoke on the commitment to the NHW program, but also donated $2500 towards initiatives to combat youth crime as highlighted in Logan recently. Mr Lecky was also moved by the recent serious illness to police officer Melissa Pierce and further pledged $500 to her benefit fund. Thankyou Chris. If any other members would like to assist Melissa and her family donations can be made at any ANZ branch Account No.: 108294012.
Speaking of rallies, I can confirm that the 2004 State NHW Rally will be on the Gold Coast. A date is yet to be confirmed. The rally will be run in conjunction with the National NHW Conference, which Qld will be hosting. This will be an opportunity for rally attendees to hear from other state NHW representatives.
On behalf of the NHW State Office I would like to wish all members of the NHW program a happy and safe New Year and I look forward to continuing towards our aim in making our community a great place to live.
