EMERGENCY REACTIONS CAN SAVE LIVES
An Emergency Service Vehicle indicates that it is responding to an emergency by activating their flashing lights and siren. When placed in this situation many drivers are unsure what to do. By remaining calm and following the points outlined below, Emergency Vehicles will be provided with a clear path to the crisis. Your part in this is vital in helping to avoid a tragedy.
When driving;
- be aware of your traffic environment
- constantly check rear vision mirrors and listen for sirens
- be aware that loud music and air conditioning may muffle sirens
When a responding Emergency Service vehicle in is your vicinity;
- identify the location by looking and listening
- plan your movements and use your indicators to signal your direction
- do not make any sudden or unplanned movements
- if safe to do so, pull over to the left
- ensure the safety of yourself and others by obeying all road rules
- remember to watch for other vehicles indicators
- be aware that there may be more than one emergency vehicle
