Give Your Property an Owner
Engraving your property makes it harder for thieves to off-load your hard earned goods and helps police to recover and return stolen items. From your TV to your tractor, your camera to your chainsaw, anything in your home can be marked or engraved in some way. Marking your property with a personal code, and keeping a detailed inventory of all your property, including the make, model, colour and size of an item assists police in recovering items and assists in cases of insurance claims.
A personal code made up the first initial of your first name, first initial of your family name, date of birth and the letter Q (for Queensland) makes up your personal code. A Property Tracing brochure, available from any local police station contains all the information required for you to mark your property. Engravers are available for loan from your local police station or NHW area. Another great way to record the details of your property is by using a digital camera. By photographing both the serial number and the item, your property descriptions can be captured on disc, stored in a safe location and used to verify ownership of property if required.
If you are looking for a NHW event to help your community become a more safe and secure place, consider holding an engraving day. What a great opportunity for meeting neighbours and protecting your property!
