To Grant or Not to Grant....
Often District Crime Prevention Coordinators and the NHW State Office are asked to supply Neighbourhood Watch areas with a ‘Letter of Support’ in relation to grant applications that they are submitting.
Whilst on occasions a letter of support can be provided, there are many occasions when this cannot be done. The following is a list of points to remember when applying for a grant:
- Most grant applications will require you to be incorporated. NHW Queensland
is not an incorporated body. You can incorporate your NHW area as an individually
entity.
- The grant must be in accordance with the objectives of the NHW program,
namely:
- improving personal safety and household/building security
- encourage the reporting of suspicious activity within the area
- property marking for identification
- and marketing the program to residents
- You must ensure that liability insurance provided for the NHW program covers the activity that the grant is for.
If a NHW area applies for a grant that is outside the objectives of the NHW program, then the application cannot be made under the NHW banner. The area will need to form another body separate from NHW before applying for the Grant.
If in doubt about any Grant application or procedures, it would be wise for
NHW areas to firstly liaise with their NHW Liaison Officer, or the local DCPC.
