Silver Cord Service

Silver Cord Service

Many people in the community go into residential care prematurely, because of lack of regular support and communication. They leave their homes and familiar surroundings because of frailty, geographical or social isolation and lack of family and friends around them.

St John Ambulance, through the Silver Cord Service, can provide vital Security Calls and also Friendship Calls in these circumstances, assisting community members, particularly the frail aged, people with a disability, and their carers, to remain home safely.

The Service is funded by St John Ambulance Australia [Qld], and subsidised by Home and Community Care [HACC] a joint State/Territory and Commonwealth Department. Callers are all volunteers, making this service free to clients – enabling many people to access it who are unable to afford some of the other options available.

Volunteering for the Silver Cord is done from your own home, at a time convenient to both caller and client. To become a Caring Caller and make a real difference to the community, or if you know of a potential Silver Cord client, please contact St John by telephoning [07] 4151 0419, or Toll Free 1300 360 455. You can also email: stjohnbund@iprimus.com.au, or write to PO Box 787, Bundaberg, Qld, 4670.
