Using NHW Funds

How should NHW areas use funds that have been raised through either donations or funding raising? Whilst the final determination will always rest with the community that makes up the NHW area the Charter contains two sections that should influence your decision.

Section 13.3 Assets of the Program: All monies obtained through the NHW Program should be used for the ongoing improvement, support, promotion or enhancement of the NHW areas in line with the objectives and policies, and

Section 12.4 Finances: All monies collected for projects or agencies not specifically supporting NHW objectives must clearly be shown to be for such purposes only and not for the NHW area.

In analysing these sections it is clear that funds collected through voluntary donations and not identified for other proposes should be used to assist in meeting the objectives of the program as outlined in Section 3 of the Charter. In stating this, NHW areas have on occasions donated small sums of money to worthy charities where the area has agreed. Whilst this is not in line with the Charter, small donations that do not significantly effect the financial situation of the area and agreed on by the members could be considered acceptable. The ultimate decision will always rest with the members of the NHW area.
