Holiday Advice

With the holiday period approaching it is vital to remain on guard with home security.  If you are planning to go away for holidays remember to let your trusted neighbours know so they can keep an eye on your home.  Other strategies include:

• Check all doors and windows are securely locked;
• Cancel milk and deliveries;
• Ask a friend or neighbour to collect mail, watch out for visitors, mow the lawn and water the garden;
• Turn down the telephone; and
• Lock away or chain up your wheelie bins away from windows.

For further information on how you can protect your home over the holiday period obtain a copy of the Holiday Security Precautions brochure from your local police station.

National NHW Conference

An important and historical step was taken at the recent National NHW Conference.  With all States, Territories and New Zealand represented, a motion was passed to accept a draft constitution and form Neighbourhood Watch Australasia Inc.  This formation will allow for a national approach in relation to national funding, sponsorship, marketing and crime prevention initiatives. This united approach will go a long way to seeing NHW become the premier volunteer organisation in the country.

Whilst unable to attend the NHW State Rally due to commitments at the National NHW Conference, I am advised that the event was a great success with plenty of information shared and fellowship spread.  A big thankyou for a job well done to the Rally committee and volunteers who assisted on the day.

I would also like to congratulate Marion Costin from Wurtulla NHW (Kawana Waters 1) who received the ‘NHW Member of the Year’ award.  Marion is an inspiration to her NHW area and community through her work with NHW and other community organisations and thoroughly deserves this award.

To the other regional award winners and an indeed all members who assist NHW in some way I congratulate you on a job well done.

State Coordinator NHW
