Magnetic Attraction to NHW
A magnetic field attracted a big crowd to morning tea at the Robert Mitchell Park, Sunnybank Hills, Brisbane in October.
Boxes of fridge magnets listing emergency phone numbers and Queensland Ambulance Services First Aid Hints booklets were unveiled as part of the Community Safety Project implemented by the Lower Sunnybank Hills-Acacia Ridge 6 Neighbourhood Watch (NHW).
Local Politicians, including State Member for Algester Karen Struthers, Brisbane City Councillor Gail Mcpherson (Runcorn) and representatives from the police, ambulance, SES and fire and rescue services were on hand to support the project which involves hand delivering information on safety to local residents.
The funding for the project came from the Community Safety Project which NHW spokeswoman Myrna Stevens said had also allowed the group to buy more equipment such as smoke detectors and key ring torches to give away to members as gifts and prizes throughout the next few months.
“This funding has enabled members to promote all aspects of community safety to 1200 homes in our Neighbourhood Watch area and hopefully will make it a much safer area to live in” Ms Stevens said. Information courtesy of the Southern Star October 11 2006.
